To avoid this situation, fan through the pages before placing them in the feeder tray to eliminate friction and static. Also, stacking the documents in the machine one at a time (as opposed to inserting 4 or 5 together) can make it a lot easier for the machine to grab pages correctly. If these procedures do not correct the problem, follow the maintenance instructions in the back of the owner's manual to clean the feed rollers.
